About and History
GCC started as the Gold Coast Cooperative Federation in the early 1950s. It metamorphosed into the Alliance of Ghana Cooperatives in 1957 upon the country’s attainment of independence. Between 1960 and 1966, there was a hiatus in cooperative activities in Ghana as the government of the day declared the movement dissolved.
It was re-registered by the Department of Cooperatives (DOC) as Ghana Cooperatives Council in 1973. The GCC has functioned as the apex organization for cooperatives in Ghana since then. It operates in four (4) sectors: Agriculture, Finance, Service and Industry. We currently have a membership/affiliation of ten (10) within these sectors, as listed below

The Ghana Co-operatives Council is an apex organization that promotes and develops co-operatives and other self-help organizations on a sustainable basis by facilitating an enabling environment and providing quality services for the economic and social well-being of its members, non-members and the communities
