GCC started as the Gold Coast Cooperative Federation in the early 1950s. It metamorphosed into the Alliance of Ghana Cooperatives in 1957 upon the country’s attainment of independence. Between 1960 and 1966, there was a hiatus in cooperative activities in Ghana as the government of the day declared the movement dissolved.
